Create a generator
Generators define the rules used to produce synthetic data values for specific data types or patterns. Each generator is built on a framework that determines how values are generated, and can be configured with classification rules to control which tables and columns it applies to during discovery.
Use this task to create a new generator in Synthetic Data.
Steps
-
From the top navigation bar, click Synthetic, then click Generators in the left navigation pane.
-
Click + Create Generator in the upper-right corner. The Create Generator wizard opens.
-
On the Select Framework page, select the generator framework to use. For a complete list of available frameworks and guidance on when to use each one, see Generator frameworks.
-
On the Basic Information page, provide the following information:
-
Name: Enter a unique name for the generator.
-
Description (optional): Enter a free-text description to help identify the generator.
-
Locale (optional): Select the locale to use for data generation.
-
Industry (optional): Select the industry context for the generator.
-
Tags (optional): Add key-value tags to organize and identify the generator.
-
-
On the Configuration page, configure the fields for the selected framework. The available fields, control types, required values, and conditional behavior depend on the framework selected. Generator output must be compatible with the target column type and, where applicable, its length, precision, and scale. For framework-specific configuration options, see Generator frameworks and follow the link for the selected framework.
-
On the Classification page, define table and column matching patterns to control which columns the generator is applied to during discovery. To add a classifier:
-
Click + Add Classifier.
-
Enter values for Table Name, Table Match, Column Name, and Column Match.
Repeat to add additional classifiers as needed.
If no classifiers are added, the generator is not automatically applied during discovery and must be assigned manually.
-
-
On the Summary page, review the generator details, including the selected framework, generator details, configuration settings, and classification rules.
-
To make changes, click Back.
-
To create the generator, click Submit.
