Create a bookmark in Data Control Tower
A bookmark marks a specific snapshot in the dSource timeline and prevents it from being automatically removed by the retention policy. You can also use bookmarks as provision points when creating VDBs.
Long-lasting bookmarks can significantly increase storage usage. All snapshots that depend on a bookmark are retained, regardless of the configured snapshot policy.
Steps
- On the Timeline tab, locate the snapshot that you want to bookmark. Select the snapshot’s Actions button and select Create Bookmark.
-
In the Create Bookmark dialog, provide the following information:
- Bookmark Name — A name for the bookmark.
DCT automatically generates a name based on the dSource name and timestamp
(for example,
dSource01-2026-05-07-15-07-24). You can edit this value. - Bookmark Visibility — Select one of the following:
- Private: Visible only to accounts with permissions on this dSource.
- Public: Also visible to accounts with permissions on compatible dSources.
- Select Retention Date — Choose the date until which the bookmark and its associated snapshot are retained.
- Keep until manually removed — Select this option to retain the bookmark indefinitely, regardless of the retention policy. This option is not recommended due to potential storage impact.
- Bookmark Name — A name for the bookmark.
DCT automatically generates a name based on the dSource name and timestamp
(for example,
- Select Create Bookmark.
The bookmark is created and appears on the Bookmarks tab of the dSource details page.
